FAQ

1. Is the use of Chemotion for free?
At the moment it is for free for all users and will be free in future for all non-commercial users.

 
2. Can I participate in the challenges and receive an award?
Everyone can participate in the challenges to win the awards.
 
3. Are my data visible for others?
The data are visible for others if you decide to publish them via Chemotion.
 
4. When are my data visible for others?
The data are visible as soon as you click the “publish” button and you confirm your decision one.

5. Can I reorganize my data?
Unpublished data can be reorganized every time, published data cannot be changed. After publication, the addition of other data to a molecule is possible.

6. How to publish data?
Enter the information you want to publish (always in combination with a structure of the molecule) and press the “publish” button for your sample (the sample mode is mandatory).

7. What kinds of data are published?
You can make a choice. You are asked to choose the datasets you want to publish during the publishing process.

8. Is it possible to delete published data?
No. Once published, the data cannot be deleted again, only the addition of other material is possible.

9. Why does the publication process take a few minutes?
The publishing process involves several steps, including the transfer to the public space, and registration in external databases. These processes will run in the background, the time is depending on the size of your datasets.

10. Is there any proof that the published data are my ones and is there any documentation related to the publishing date?
Besides the documentation via Chemotion, these data can be found via the TIB in Hannover where the registration of the DOIs takes place.

11. Are there other institutions involved in the publishing process?
Yes, the “Technische Informationsbibliothek in Hannover (TIB)” (Registration of DOI for your data).
 
12. Is there any commercial interest of the Chemotion project?
No. The project has been started to help chemists and to provide a useful tool that may help researchers. The team is not sure if the Chemotion data collection will be accessible for free for commercial users in future. At the moment, it is completely free for all researchers and it will be free in future for all non-commercial users as well.
 
13. Where are my data stored?
Currently, all datasets are stored in AWS S3. We plan to migrate them to a local large scale storage at KIT in the next months.
 
14. How long are my data available?
As we store all datasets in a file system archive, they are available as long as file systems and webservers exist.
 
15. Where can I ask further questions regarding to the functionality of Chemotion?
