Challenge:  
Integrating existing open source chemistry toolkits into a reusable framework, which is flexible enough for web-based and cloud-based operations.

Problem: 
Open source chemistry toolkits and compound editors are written in different languages and for different operating systems. A simple integration in a modern web-based environment still requires manual installation and linking.

Tools:
The ChemRails package for Ruby on Rails integrates popular existing open source tools, and makes them available in a ruby gem for easy embedding in Ruby on Rails projects. This method allows fast and agile development cycles for life science informatics applications.
